Postdoctoral researcher in aquatic biogeochemistry and ecotoxicology
Molecular biogeochemistry and ecotoxicology group of the Institute F.A. Forel at the University of Geneva is currently looking for a postdoctoral researcher. The successful candidate will conduct a project on the dynamics of metal bioavailability and effect to phytoplankton under changing environment. The project is part of a multidisciplinary research aiming to better understand the basic processes governing the behaviour and impact of the vital and toxic elements in the aquatic systems, which are highly relevant to water quality and environmental risk assessment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a PhD in environmental chemistry, biochemistry, environmental sciences or ecotoxicology. Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with practical expertise in one or more of the following: algal biosensor, metal speciation, bioaccumulation, flow filed‐flow fractionation, flow cytometry and mercury analysis. Enthusiasm for top‐quality research and can‐do‐spirit are highly appreciated. Good knowledge of spoken and written English and French and excellent communication skills are essential. The candidate will benefit from working with a very dynamic and multidisciplinary team, involving Molecular biogeochemistry and ecotoxicology group at the University of Geneva, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne and North Carolina State University.
The successful candidate will mainly collaborate with doctoral students, but will also interact with other members the Institute F.‐A. Forel. The work will consist mainly of laboratory experimentation as well as field sampling and measurements. The successful candidate will also participate in the teaching of different classes and organisation of the lab training and field trips for of the Master in Environmental Sciences (MUSE). Starting date is 1st of December 2010 or to be discussed. The appointment is initially for one year with the possibility for a prolongation up to 5 years. The salary will be in accordance with the University of Geneva regulations.
