Postdoc for modelling of magnetic refrigeration

Do you want to help develop innovative and environmentally friendly refrigeration technologies for the future?

The Fuel Cells and Solid State Chemistry Department at Risø National Laboratory is seeking a postdoc to model magnetic refrigeration systems.

When a magnetic material is placed in an external magnetic field, its temperature rises. This socalled magnetocaloric effect may be used in a refrigeration system where the active component is a magnetocaloric substance subjected to repeated magnetizations and demagnetizations.

You will be part of a group working at the international front line of room-temperature magnetic refrigeration. We have just received funding for a 4-year project with the aim of developing a workable prototype.
Job description

You will develop a numerical model for a magnetic refrigeration apparatus, including the active component, magnet, heat exchangers and system components such as pumps. The model will be used to extract important operating parameters, e.g. temperature span, cooling power and coefficient of performance. In addition, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing the thermal integration with the auxiliary systems in cooperation with our industry partner, Danfoss A/S.

Qualifications

* You are expected to have a PhD within the area of engineer, chemist or physicist
* experience with numerical modelling
* experience with design of heat exchangers
* ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamical group
* good communication skills in English, both written and spoken

We offer

We offer an exciting and challenging job in an international environment.

Good possibilities for professional and personal growth.
Terms of employment

The terms of employment will be in accordance with those of scientific staff at Risø National Laboratory. The position is for a fixed duration of two years.
