The School of Pharmacy, University of London
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Microbiology
The Microbiology Group at the School of Pharmacy is a well-funded research group with state-of-the-art facilities and a focus on the discovery and development of new modalities for the treatment of severe Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections. The group has accumulated a network of expertise in molecular biology, protein engineering, medicinal chemistry, microbial physiology and natural product biology in order to provide the means to develop alternative antibacterial therapies. Applications are invited for an MRC-funded Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the group to explore the mechanism of modulation of antibiotic resistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) by naturally occurring polyphenols. The work will involve investigation of the structure and biosynthesis of cell wall macromolecules and determination of biophysical characteristics of bacterial membranes. Research experience in these areas would be an advantage.
The position is for three years and the initial salary will be in the range £26,626 to £30,475 inclusive of London Allowance, depending on experience. For an informal discussion, contact Professor Peter Taylor (020 7753 5867; peter.taylor@pharmacy.ac.uk ).
Closing date for applications is 24th November 2006.
Applications containing a CV, a cover letter and the names of three referees should be sent to Prof Peter W. Taylor, The School of Pharmacy, 29/39 Brunswick Square, London WC1N 1AX, tel/fax 020 7753 5867, e-mail peter.taylor@pharmacy.ac.uk.
