Assunto: The dangerous lack of peer-reviewed evidence in healthcare companies with a value above 1 billion

Still concerning the email below I would say that when companies invest billions in research its universities job to check the quality of that very same research. See on this issue an extract below taken from a recent paper co-authored by the well know Stanford Professor John Ioannidis that analyses almost 50 healthcare related unicorns (startups with value in excess of 1 billion) including the notorius case of the 9 billion fraud unicorn Theranos https://www.independent.co.uk/news/busi ... 23621.html

“High‐valuation companies that publish little or nothing in the peer‐reviewed literature may still have patents related to their products. One may argue that patents undergo rigorous evaluation. However, patents do not offer the same level of documentation as peer‐reviewed articles. For example, Theranos had over 100 patents, but these were unable to supplant the vacuum in their evidence....when a team of investigators used the Theranos technology to run 22 common lab tests versus the same tests run with other companies’ technologies, the problematic error rates became manifest... https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/ful ... /eci.13072

Assunto: 18 January of 2019___Research ethics now a strategic priority for doctoral schools

https://www.universityworldnews.com/pos ... 8062920255

“Research ethics and integrity has become one of the top strategic priorities in doctoral education in Europe, according to a landscape report published by the European University Association’s Council for Doctoral Education... the importance attributed to research ethics and integrity is remarkable: several years ago, this topic rarely showed up in the debates and publications in this area. It shows how important the issue of research ethics and integrity has become for universities in a very short time”

It almost seems that the email entitled"THE FUTURE CORE BUSINESS OF UNIVERSITY IS ETHICS" that i sent to a lot of Colleagues in July of 2016 (below) is making much more sense now. Be there as it may when i read the "New European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity" i can´t stop feel that very smart foxes are guarding the henhouse because there´s nothing there on paper factories, ghost authorship or about the need to tackle the vicious neophilia disease.

Subject: New European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity

Following the email below of March 28 about "mafia money" in academia that was mentioned in a post by the German science journalist Leonid Schneider see below the link on the New European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity http://ec.europa.eu/research/index.cfm? ... a-240317-1

Also worth seeing is the link concerning the fact that the German Research Foundation has banned for 5 years the scientist Tina Wenz to apply to research funds http://retractionwatch.com/2017/04/03/g ... uct-probe/

And a yesterday post regarding an interview with Richard Harris, author of a book on reproducibility can be seen here http://retractionwatch.com/2017/04/04/f ... ucibility/
