"The relationship between overcommitment and strain is stronger for female postdocs than it is for male postdocs, and the direct link between work stress and the intention to leave academia applies only to female postdocs..."

Assunto: Another female top scientist in trouble and the Dark Triad test

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-06009-9

The link above reveals a very recent news on the top geneticist Dr. Rahman working at the Cancer Research Institute in London that loose a 3.5 million Grant due to bullying charges concerning the members of her own team. This new case and the reported case in the email below of Director Tania Singer, must be seen taking to account also the case of another female top scientist that in 2017 was also involved in bullying accusations namely for requiring work at weekends and meetings until midnight (working conditions that nobody accept in the private sector but that a few Prima Donnas in academia see as perfectly normal) http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/10/ ... llegations It seems that women being more empathetic than men does not apply for those working in competitive science. As i previously wrote in an email below Probably it would not be a bad idea if all top scientists (male and female) had to complete the Dark Triad personality questionnaire !

Assunto: A nigthmare research lab in Germany

http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/08/ ... dated-them
“Tania Singer, neuroscientist and director at the Max Planck Institute...in Leipzig, Germany…daughter of celebrated neuroscientist Wolf Singer….one colleague says: “She gets extremely emotional and when that turns dark it is terrifying.” Another co-worker describes what happened after he told Singer some people in her group were unhappy: “She was very hurt by this and started crying and screaming,”… Bethany Kok, a former lab member who agreed to speak on the record because she is no longer working in neuroscience, says Singer reacted kindly when she first told her she was pregnant with twins. But the next day, Kok says, “She started screaming at me how she wasn’t running a charity, how I was a slacker and that I was going to work twice as hard for the time I would be gone.” A few weeks later, Kok says, she miscarried one of the twins and missed a lab meeting for an urgent medical appointment. “I got an email from Tania telling me that she wasn’t paying me to go to the doctor, that clearly I wasn’t using good judgment, and I was no longer allowed to go to the doctor during work hours.”
