Assunto: Franco Nori, Chief Scientist at Riken, Japan´s largest research Institute

Yesterday Publons reached 370.000 meaning that in the last 30 days more 30.000 reviewers joined this platform. And almost 500 of those reviewers are Highly Cited Researchers being that Franco Nori is the one with more confirmed reviews for that particular group.

Assunto: Is Australia putting Prof. Ioannidis academic reward suggestions into practice ?

In a 2014 paper John Ioannidis full professor of medicine at Stanford University suggested a change in the academic reward system http://journals.plos.org/plosmedicine/a ... ed.1001747

and some months ago in a UK Parliament committee some colleagues testified saying that:
“the whole system of academic research is currently permeated by perverse incentives…that need to be removed or at least diminished”

More recently Amanda Salis, Professor of medicine at the University of Sydney wrote the following:
“I have observed a change of culture at the National Health and Medical Research Council-NHMRC and at research institutes in the past 5-10 years that has encouraged the addition of peer review activity to research applications. It is no longer enough to just be doing great research; you also need to demonstrate that you are contributing to your profession more broadly. Peer review is an important means by which researchers can contribute to the growth of their profession, and demonstrating that you have done a certain amount of peer review (via a verifiable means such as Publons) proves that you are indeed making contributions to the greater good of research”.

P.S - By Saturday Publons will reach 300.000 reviewers, the 200.000 mark was reached in September of 2017 and the 100K in December of 2016. This means that before the end of this year Publons will have half a million registered reviewers
