PhD-Uncertainty Quantification for CFD, Rolls-Royce UTC

Mensagem por simaomrq »

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship within the Rolls-Royce funded ThermoFluid Systems University Technology Centre at the University of Surrey.

The internal air system within a gas turbine engine is critical to the efficiency of modern engines. This project will concentrate on the development of tools to quantify the effect of uncertainty (for example in manufacturing tolerances) on the performance of the system. The successful candidate will have an interest in computer programming and strong mathematical skills. The project will be in collaboration with Rolls-Royce and will involve regular meetings with Rolls-Royce stakeholders.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have an upper second (or better) degree or equivalent in engineering or a related subject.

Funding

This 3.5 year PhD studentship will cover a tax-free stipend of £19,000 per annum (only UK/EU) and UK/EU fees; additional income may be generated by conducting laboratory demonstrator tasks for undergraduate courses.

To Apply:

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Prof. Nick Hills (n.hills@surrey.ac.uk). Formal applications should be made through our Aerodynamics programme page.

The position is available to start immediately and the successful applicant must be able to start before 1st Oct. 2018. The position will be filled when an appropriate applicant applies and must be filled by 1st October.
