10 Phd and 3 Post-doctoral Marie Curie Fellowships available in Parasite glycobiology and anti-parasitic strategies

The GlycoPar Marie Curie Initial Training Network is setup to provide a comprehensive, timely and multidisciplinary training of young European researchers (10 Early Stage Researchers and 3 Experienced Researchers) with the skills and knowledge demanded to address the challenges involved in the study of parasite glycobiology.

The main scientific goal of GlycoPar will be the description of novel paradigms and models by which parasite glycoconjugates (from protozoans to helminths) play a role in the successful colonization of the different hosts and the translation of all this knowledge into novel diagnostic tools and therapeutic approaches against parasitic infections affecting humans or animals. Each of the 10 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs - PhD Students) and 3 Experienced Researchers (ERs - Postdocs) supported by GlycoPar will carry out their projects under the supervision of one Principal Investigator from different leading glycoparasitology research groups. The network comprises of 12 full partners (8 academic and 4 industrial) and 2 industrial associate partners.

The researchers recruited through this initiative will be exposed, both at the local and network-wide level, to a multicultural and highly multidisciplinary PhD training. This programme will acquaint them with a complete range of state-of-the-art glycobiology methodologies, alongside with valuable transferable and entrepreneurial skills. The project will also offer specific training through secondments, visits and collaboration with both academic and industrial partners. In all research projects we envisage that a minimum of 10% and up to 30% of the ESR/ERs contract will be spent at partner laboratory.

This EU project is coordinated by Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Lisbon, Portugal.
