YES - Young European Scientists meeting (21 to 23 September 2006, Porto|Portugal)

We are pleased to invite you to the YES MEETING, that will take place from the 21st to the 23rd of September, 2006, in Porto Medical School, Portugal. Our main goal is to bring to Porto student researchers, medical students and distinguished speakers in biomedical areas, join scientists and physicians from all over the world, and create a network place where knowledge and experience can be shared!

We strongly encourage students and young scientists to take this opportunity to attend a large scientific meeting, a first time for many of them.

Our scientific programme will cover different areas, on which we will have student presentations (orally or with the aid of posters) complemented with debates and round tables on topics of basic and clinical interest by worldwide authorities on the respective issues.

Most of all, we assure you our efforts will go towards making this event a scientific highlight and a memorable visit to Porto.

YES explained

Addressing the lack of international meetings in the course of our medical training, we devised the YES Meeting with three main goals in mind: medical students’ education; presentation of biomedical research projects developed by students; and creation of a students’ network around the globe.

This event will provide the unique opportunity to share the biomedical knowledge acquired at universities from all over the world, allowing different perspectives and approaches on the main concerns of the medical sciences to be discussed. This is also an excellent way to learn and discuss with top specialists, in an informal manner.

Another important goal for us, was to offer students a way to present their research works. Medical students involved in research projects rarely manage to present their work to their peers at an international level. Therefore, the YES Meeting was designed to promote these works as well as stimulate further research during college graduation. As a means to accomplish this, the YES Meeting will have worldwide authorities on different areas commenting these works, and will award the best research works on each field of investigation a prize.

Ultimately, we intend to make YES an important platform and gathering place for all medical students, physicians and scientists. All are welcome, either to present their research, to discover and learn about other students research, or simply to attend to the conferences on the major medical issues of today and tomorrow. With the YES Meeting we hope to provide an opportunity for establishing new contacts and connections between students and top scientists, providing those interested a new direction for their lives.

Our scientific programme includes symposiums, workshops and students' presentations on 4 major themes of biomedical interest: Cardiovascular Diseases, Oncology, Neurosciences, and Immunology / HIV. Please refer to the Programme section of this site for updates on the planned main conferences and the selected students' presentations.

Our social programme includes day and night events from a range of cultural outings to historic places of interest, such as Oporto Wine Cellars, Clérigos Tower, Casa da Música, Ribeira, ... to an introduction to Porto's famous nightlife. Our Social Programme ends with a “Farewell Party” dinner at the wonderful Vila Nova de Gaia's Oporto Wine Cellars. Please refer to the Social Programme section of this site for more information..
